Why?
Why? That is the question people ask when I tell them about this new chapter in my life.
For me my life has always been about giving back by serving others and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I can talk proudly about what I have accomplished in my career, especially with my two sons and that makes all the difference.
Now as I throw my hat into the ring for elected office, it remains about giving back by serving others. Instilling in my sons and all who will listen, that politics is a noble vocation.
The State of Illinois can not take four more years of the same old politics and same failed policies. The time has arrived for something new and completely different. Illinois needs a fresh start and fresh ideas.
It's time for us to change Illinois. That's why I'm running for the Illinois General Assembly.
I realize that my pedigree and my family ties may not match many of those in the state capitol. But you can't change the direction of Illinois with the same old players, playing the same old game.
I know old school politicians and naysayers will dismiss this approach as naive. That is to be expected. If you don't have any fresh ideas, then you use tired old tactics to scare voters. I believe voters are smarter. Together we will show them they are wrong.
I received some sage advice from a friend recently, "It's simple really, just follow your convictions." I will always remember the virtue of discernment, and apply my moral values and beliefs to my decisions. So I pledge to conduct myself in an ethical manner and follow my convictions.
I may not have all the right answers. I am ready to look beyond partisan politics and compromise when necessary in order to best serve my constituents. And if people choose to be critical, that is their right. Criticism is an important part of the political process and I welcome a civil debate. I promise to listen.
So regardless of political party, if you want a legislator who believes we should invest in education, take care of the sick and the poor, provide for first responders, reduce and reform government before raising taxes, and work to build an economy that produces good jobs with benefits...I ask for your support and in return I commit to working hard on your behalf.
That is the best I can offer. Hard work. Compromise. Conviction.
I am running for the Illinois General Assembly to give back by serving others. I am asking for your support.
