Supporting our First Responders

Police, Firefighters and EMT's are at the top of my public safety agenda. These brave men and women, our first responders, put their lives on the line to keep us safe and secure. Their bravery merits our firm and unwavering support.

As the great-grandson of the founding secretary of the Chicago Firefighters Union and grandson of a Chicago Police Officer this commitment is very personal and deeply held.

I endorse the recommendations of The Civic Federation's "Fiscal Rehabilitation Plan for Illinois" to resolve the state's fiscal crisis.

Illinois' fiscal crisis is years in the making and a national embarrassment. It is time for tough choices and resolve, it is time for new leaders ready to embrace fiscal responsibility.

Campaign Finance Reform

Finishing the Job

Illinois for the first time has imposed limits on the amounts that individuals and other entities can donate to political candidates.

In addition to the contribution limits, the new law creates more stringent rules for defining political committees and for the reporting of donations. And yet these new rules, while a considerable improvement, fail to deliver real reform.
